Yang-May Ooi
Welcome to the website of Yang-May Ooi, writer and blogger.
Why do I write?
I’m fascinated by people’s journey through life: how do we get to where we are - and what happens next. What values or desires have led us here? Who has helped or hindered us? What drives us on to the next stage in our stories? Perhaps a childhood ambition propels us, or hurt from a disastrous love affair, or hope that we can change the world for the better. Or simply someone we have met along the way.
Everyone is connected.
How does the time and place in which we live shape what we do and who we are? What about the tools and technologies that we find to hand - do they inspire us to create or destroy? I love exploring the circumstances that create the context of each of our stories. I love looking back at history to see how developments in shipbuilding and the invention of the telegraph once opened up the world - and now the internet and social media are bringing us all closer together. I love that without the creation of double entry book-keeping by a medieval monk, the world of finance would not exist - nor the businesses that have created the modern goods and services that we rely on.
Everything is connected.
My two novels explore these themes through fiction. My third book, focused on the world of business, looks at how today’s commuinications technologies are playing a lead role in shaping how we connect to each other. My blog is my weekly “fusion view” of these themes as I see them around me in my daily life.
I hope you will enjoy exploring our fascinating, connected world with me through my books and my blog.
