Spam Annoyance

It looks like spammers have been using false [at]fusionview.co.uk email addresses to spam all and sundry. I’ve been getting all the bounce-back messages from their recipients. This is very annoying for everyone - the spammed and also me.

All I can say to anyone who has been spammed by a false [at]fusionview.co.uk is that the emails did not originate from me and I am as fed up with it as you are.

I’ve looked into this and it looks like quite a number of domain name owners have had this problem and there doesn’t seem to be much that we can do about it. If someone has found a solution, please let me know by adding a comment.

Scheduling on Fusion View

For the next few months, I will be updated this blog on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with additional posts in-between from time to time.

If you are an email subscriber, you do not need to do anything. Your email notification will come out to you once a week as before on Thursdays.

For other visitors, do check back every week to see what’s new on the site!

Film Mondays at Fusion View

As an experiment in the blogging multimedia experience, I am showing short films on Mondays through June and July, starting on UK Bank Holiday Monday 29 May. They will be uploaded around 8.30 am GMT +1.

I’ve chosen the films because they make me laugh and that’s as a good a way as any to brighten up Mondays!

System Requirements

The films are streamed from YouTube.com and require a Flash Player. You need the latest version of Macromedia Flash installed - if you don’t have this, you can download it from Adobe.

If the film keeps stopping or stuttering, that’s to do with your connection. You will need broadband of at least 500+Kbps.

You will need the sound enabled on your PC and your speakers turned on, with the volume controls set above 0.

In general, you need to make sure you have the following:

  • Macromedia Flash Player 7.0+ plug-in
  • Windows 2000 or higher with latest updates installed
  • Mac OS X 10.3 or higher
  • Firefox 1.1+, IE 5.0+, or Safari 1.0+
  • Broadband connection with 500+ Kbps

If you are using Firefox, there can sometimes be a problem hearing the sound so you may need to switch to Internet Explorer.

The films are shown by embedding them from YouTube.com - the above information is reproduced from that site’s Troubleshooting section. I have no other technical knowlege, I’m afraid. If you continue to have problems, please go to www.youtube.com and click on their "Help" section.

Fusion View Film Archive

You can watch films in the Fusion View Film Archive by going to the Category called "Film/ TV/ Live Performance" in the sidebar on the right of the page.

Site News

I am pleased to report:

>> The Search facility for this site is now working smoothly. Type any keyword into the Google searchbox in the sidebar and select "Fusion View", click "Search" and you will find a listing of Fusion View posts containing that keyword. (You can also search the Web from here by selecting the "Web" option in the searchbox).

>> For subscribers, I have set the email notifications to come to you once a week from now on, with occasional notifications of any hot news topics in-between. I hope that you will find this more convenient. You can still check back in between to see what’s new on Fusion View.

I would be happy to hear from you with any feedback as to how this site can be improved.

Many thanks.

New Name for YM’s Lit Blog

Yang-May Ooi’s Lit Blog has now been officially christened Fusion View and has its own domain at www.fusionview.co.uk.

Following overwhelmingly positive responses in the two weeks since I launched the blog, I decided to upgrade ahead of schedule, with additional user-friendly features.

You will find:

  • Topics are now sorted in "Categories" where the link will take you straight to the posts in that category.
  • You can subscribe anonymously now if you prefer (but I won’t be able to include you in the prize draws)
  • There is a Useful Links section - currently, you can search Amazon.co.uk direct from my site.
  • I am aware that the facility to Search the site still needs some tweaking and I’m working on it. Hopefully, it should be fully functional very soon.
  • The site looks cleaner visually I think.

As a subscriber, you don’t have to do anything - you will be notified automatically from this new site.

If you have bookmarked the old site in your Favourites, you will need to change the bookmark to refer to this new site at www.fusionview.co.uk.

About this Blog

FAQ about this blog and blogging

General

What is a Lit Blog?

A blog is short for "weblog", which is an online journal. (As in Star Trek, when William Shatner says "Captain’s Log, star date XXXX….").

Lit is short for "literary" and "lit blog" or "litblog" is the term used for writer’s blogs where we talk about literary things. I’m also going to be talking about films and TV and food etc but "lit flick telly nosh blog" is a bit long-winded….

How often will you be updating this blog?

I see this blog more like a newsletter than a journal so it will be updated with specific articles of interest for my readers rather than a rambling and un-edited "brain dump". I expect to update it with articles at least once a week with the regular postings in between, and more often if there are breaking news items of immediate interest.

Where can I find out about your site policies?

Please click on Site Policies in the Categories section of the sidebar.

Who writes the content for this blog?

I write all the content myself. I find it helps me stay creative when I am not working on my next book. Some might say it’s a dangerous distraction tactic to keep me from writing my next book….

Who maintains this blog?

I maintain this site myself in between writing and my day job as I enjoy fiddling around with HTML and web design. This means that I may not be able to correct any technical glitches or deal with queries as quickly as I would like. Please bear with me!

Try Blogging

I’d like to try blogging. Where do I start?

Check out some of the free blogging sites - Blogger and WordPress come to mind. This blog is designed using WordPress by Out of the Trees webdesigners, and hosted on my own website, which is a paid service. There are other sites so do a search and check them out.

How do I subscribe to this blog?

To subscribe, go to the "Subscribe" section of the sidebar on the right of the page and enter your email address. Then, click "Subscribe me!", OR click here to go straight to the subscription form.
