About Yang-May Ooi
Yang-May Ooi is a Malaysian-born writer and social media consultant based in the UK. She has published two novels with Hodder & Stoughton, UK. Yang-May blogs and podcasts at her multimedia online “magazine” Fusion View, an East/ West blog on writing, culture and the arts at www.fusionview.co.uk.
Fusion View began with around 200 unique users in April 2006 and grew to over 4,000 unique users in December the same year. It continues to grow by about 1,000 unique visitors a month and has been featured in The Star, a Malaysian national newspaper and picked up by Jon Yang, the author of The Rough Guide to Blogging. Through ZenGuide, her social media consultancy, Yang-May is currently working with business professionals and a City of London institution in setting up their blogs and implementing editorial strategies for their blog content. She is also helping them integrate their social media activities with their overall marketing strategy. She has advised solo professionals on their websites and printed brochures and consulted with a leading art gallery in London on their social media strategy. In association with Silvia Cambie, Director of Chanda Communications, Yang-May offers training to PR agencies, the corporate sector, associations and non-governmental networks on social media.
Yang-May has over 15 years experience working in the legal and local government sector as lawyer*, advising on complex, multi-million pound development projects. She has edited corporate journals and newsletters, working closely with marketing teams and she has also had a successful solo career as a novelist and freelance writer. Her range of experience gives her a strong understanding of the objectives of corporate clients as well as the needs of small businesses and solo professionals. Yang-May currently works part-time in a management role in a financial institution in the City of London. Yang-May read English Literature and Language at St Hilda’s College, Oxford University and holds a Certificate in Coaching.
Yang-May is a member of the Society of Authors and the City Women’s Network in the UK.
