Billionaire Writer
Yes, you guessed it. JK Rowling. (For anyone left on the planet who doesn’t know who she is, she is the author of the Harry Potter books.)
She is honoured in Wired magazines’ 2007 Rave Awards. They write:
“Rowling was paid a $4,000 advance. Today she is the first person on the planet to become a billionaire by writing books.”
She gains this status not just through her books alone but through the films and action figures and all the other related tie-in merchandise. “Rowling is the reigning master of what you might call MMFWs — massively multireader fictional worlds”, says Wired.
All I can say is: Wow!

BET before too long she will be created a Dame, the DBE, if she does not decline the honour.

Interesting point. Does becoming a billionaire naturally lead to being awarded an OBE or title in the UK? Or would she get it for “services to literature”?

HAD heard the Rowling girl is worth GBP £700 million OR USD $1,400 million OR RM 4,900 million. Not bad eh, for a writer. Any award or honours to her
likely for services to literature IMO. Grade of award more likely to be
determined by quality output rather than quantitative aspect if Kelly Holmes’ DBE for her double Olympic Gold Medals in Athens is anything to go by as lesser achievements attracted lesser awards. Fay Weldon has a CBE BTW.
In strict hierarchical order: baron / baroness, KBE/DBE, knight (male only), CBE, OBE, MBE and the BEM. Other orders of chivalry but they needn’t concern us too much here.
Heard a radio announcement Joanna Lumley is to be guest on “Desert Island Disc” where celebrities or the Great and the Good of Britain are invited to take part in an interview programme on BBC Radio 4, when broadcast, internet accessible anywhere in the world like all BBC radio programmes are.

OH, I almost
forgot, there’s
also the GBE
following the
barony but
preceding the
KBE/DBE. Caspar
Weinberger of US
was awarded an honorary GBE BTW.
