Phone Blogging from Malaysia
While I am in Malaysia in the next 10 days or so, I will be having a go at Phone Blogging. The player below will be updated with a new episode every time I report by phone on my Malaysian trip. This page will headline Fusion View until Monday 05 March 07.00 am GMT.
Why Phone Blogging? Because I will be staying with my parents and the most up to date technology they have is an electric typewriter… So, I will not be able to update this blog using text.
I won’t be able to do any editing to the phone blog so it will essentially be like a live podcast from my phone
Also, I won’t be able to add any written notes to my phone report so the player will show only Episode 4*, Episode 5* etc. You can listen to each episode by clicking on the relevant episode in the player below. I will aim to record a report every other day so check back from time to time to hear the latest episode.
I hope you enjoy this experiment!
Alternatively, to launch a standalone version of the player, click on the button below.
* It starts with Episode 4 - I used up the previous episodes with “testing, testing”!

if you carry your laptop, starbucks has free wifi service in kl. or you can update from some of the cafes which have internet-enabled PCs.

DON’T forget to do a written transcript additionally or on return to UK, for the benefit of those hard of hearing or have a predilection for the written word even though the computer sound system doesn’t play up that it can quite capriciously!
Progressive or thoughtful websites I’ve visited sometimes have video and audio but there is always a written transcript to accompany in respect of things delivered orally.

Hiya Yang-May!
It was great finally meeting up with you at the MPH Breakfast Club. Just like your website, you contributed many interesting insights and ideas to our local writing community.
Later, at the Readings session, I’m glad we had the opportunity to hear an excerpt from your new novel-in-progress, in two editions! The more colloquial version came alive when read aloud with all the right accents.
I’ll do a proper write-up of the events as soon as I can find the time. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Malaysia. Cheers!

Yang-May, amazing what you can do with technology these days…and also to be able to hear your voice as if I’m talking to you on the phone!
Heard episode#6 and I really ditto all your comments about coming home. Must be distressful re-visiting a BBGS that’s no longer there. What a pity that we can’t preserve the past.
As for Chapter 1, I’d go for the Malaysian 1st person. Riskier, publishing wise, but I’m sure it’s the more satisfying, the more enriching way to go.

EPISODE 6, Halim? On my machine at UTC+0, latest is 5. BBGS site is prime realty, not surprised school had to go to make way for more lucrative developments much like Bidadari in Singapore had to, but living space there is far more acute IMO.

Enjoying your phoneblogs whilst in bed with flu! Look forward to hearing all about it when you are back.

Technology can be so cool when it’s not used to bomb countries. Before you know it, we’ll be able to leave audio comments on blogs. *shudders at thought of spam-hecklers*

Yang-May - excellent use of technology!
Kenny - hopefully, the “audio comment” feature is optional and can be turned off.

Hoho, Yang-May enters the digital age! Nicely done.
Wish I could be there to watch you at the Festival…strange date though, as the 24th coincided with our Malaysia Night here in Cambridge, and as you flew back to be admired by your legions of fans, Malaysian bigwigs were flying over here so we could shamelessly lick their boots…
Blow a kiss at the Bangsar restaurants for me whilst you’re there, will you? I miss Malaysian food.
Oh, and this may be random, but I love your accent. It’s so posh, at least over the player :)

Hi Yang-May, it was great to meet up with you finally. You’re more jovial and spontaneous than you come across in your blog and podcasts.
